Chamber throws its weight behind movement to combat racism

CHAMBER THROWS ITS WEIGHT BEHIND MOVEMENT TO COMBAT RACISM

The Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber is backing both state and local efforts to declare racism a public health crisis, officials announced Friday.

The decision to back the resolutions currently being pursued by the Ohio General Assembly and Board of Hamilton County Commissioners comes as the nation's ongoing conversation about race in America and the Covid-19 pandemic "laid bare the health, economic and justice disparities that exist in our systems," Molly North, the chamber's board chair and CEO of Al Neyer, said in a statement.

"The business community recognizes and appreciates the efforts by elected leaders to address the oppression caused by racism," North's statement continued. "Furthermore, we are committed and ready to lead transformational efforts with long-term impact. We will focus on initiatives that create a more inclusive economy for Black Cincinnatians and one where anyone can experience prosperity regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender or background."

The chamber has historically been a public advocate for diversity and inclusion efforts as well as economic equity.
